What is a Medical Coder?

Medical coders turn the details of a patient visit into standardized codes used for claims, records, reporting, and compliance.

Patient visit A provider sees the patient and documents what happened.
Review the chart The coder reads the notes, diagnosis, procedures, supplies, and details.
Choose the correct codes Codes explain the reason for care and the services performed.
Support billing and records Accurate codes help claims, reimbursement, reporting, and compliance.
ICD-10-CM: Diagnosis CPT: Procedures HCPCS: Supplies

Coders do more than memorize numbers.

They learn how to read medical documentation, find key details, follow coding guidelines, and use the coding books correctly.

Accuracy matters.

The right code can affect billing, insurance claims, compliance, and the medical record. That is why practice and process are so important.

What happened? The diagnosis or reason for the visit.
What was done? The procedure, service, supply, or treatment.
What supports it? The documentation needed to choose the correct code.

What students say about learning with Kathy.

Real feedback from students who appreciated patient instruction, practical learning, and support throughout class.

Mrs. Kathy Pittman is an excellent teacher. I had an opportunity to take her class for the CPC course. As a student, she gave us great support, she was patient and thrilled to help with everyone in the class, she made learning fun. I would highly recommend Mrs. Pittman, to anyone who is interested in learning from the best and from someone who loves what they do. She uses practical learning activities and meet you on your level of learning so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Thank you for all the help and support Mrs. Pittman.

Taking this course with Mrs. Pittman was a great experience! If you’re looking for someone to teach you the ins and outs of medical coding thoroughly from the front to back cover, then you have come to the right place. With her detailed curriculum, I was able to pass the CPC certification on my first attempt without having any prior experience with coding.

FAQ

Answers before you commit.

Straightforward details for students who want a clear plan, realistic expectations, and serious exam preparation.

How often does class meet?

The program runs for 12 weeks and meets once a week for 3 hours. It is designed for adults who need a schedule that can realistically meet their educational goals.

What certification is this program designed to help me prepare for?

The course is designed to help students prepare for the CPC certification, which is one of the most recognized medical coding certifications. Kathy can also recommend where students can take the exam.

Do I need to buy books?

Yes. Books are required and are purchased separately. Students need the current-year coding books because the certification exam uses the current years books, and the course is built around learning how to use them correctly.

Do I need prior healthcare experience?

No. This training is meant to help beginners learn the fundamentals clearly and build confidence step by step.

Is this live or self-paced?

This is a live online training program taught through Google Meet. Students can ask questions during class (Virtual Training), and Kathy may also answer questions after class depending on availability.

Do you provide practice tests?

Yes. Kathy usually provides mock testing near the end of the program so students can better measure their readiness before taking the certification exam.

What is the certification exam like?

The exam is typically multiple choice and includes 100 questions. A score of 70 is considered passing. The course helps students get familiar with the books and the exam format instead of relying on memorization alone.

When should I take the certification exam?

Kathy recommends taking the exam as soon as you are ready, ideally within two weeks after training, so the material is still fresh and you are still comfortable using the books.

Are refunds available?

No. The program has a no refund policy. However, students may be allowed to rejoin training again once within 6 months period of time. You can confirm details before enrolling. For additional details please give Kathy a call.

Will this guarantee certification or a job?

No. This program is designed to help you prepare for certification and build real coding knowledge, but certification, passing scores, and employment are not guaranteed. However you'll be provided the tools needed to be successful. Kathy has helped 100's of students with their certification and started their successful career as a Medical coder.
